About the brewery:
The Smíchovský brewery in Prague was founded in 1869, and on May 1, 1871, the brewer Petr Quaiser brewed the first batch of beer in it. In the first year of production, the volume of production reached almost 10,000 hectolitres, which is more than the limit of current microbreweries. An important step in the promotion of the new enterprise was the opening of the Na Verandách restaurant in the fall of 1871, and in 1880 the visit of Emperor Francis Joseph I, who praised the Smích beer and signed the brewery's chronicle in Czech. The brewery had one of the first bottling plants in Austria-Hungary, artificial cooling in cellars and spilkas at the end of the 19th century and used steam in the brewhouse as early as the beginning of the 20th century. In 1884, the semi-dark beer Granát began to be brewed in the brewery. Staropramen registered its name as a trademark in 1913. The golden age of the brewery occurred in the interwar period. Thanks to modernization, it has become one of the elite of the three largest European breweries. Currently, Staropramen exports beer all over Europe, and Orlano Bloom has become its ambassador. Together with Ostravar, Staropramen now belongs to the multinational group Molson Coors. Together with Ostravar, Staropramen now belongs to the multinational group Molson Coors.
