About the brewery:

The Abbay de Leffe Abbey and brewery were located on the Meuse River in southern Belgium, and beer began to be brewed here as early as 1240. In the 18th century, Leffe beer was so popular and tasty that parishioners preferred to drink beer on Mondays rather than go to church. But then came the Great French Revolution, and the abbey was destroyed and not restored until the early 20th century. In 1952, Abbot Nys decided to resume brewing according to the original 13th-century recipes. After the brewery was acquired by the multinational group InBev, beer production was moved to the brewery in Leuven, where Stella Artois, among others, is brewed.
