About the brewery:
The company was founded in Strasbourg in 1664 by Jérôme Hatt and is one of the oldest brewing companies in France. He brewed his very first batch of beer in a single barrel. In the same year, he received the title of brewmaster and rented the brewery "Au Canon" on Place Corbeau in Strasbourg. Three years later, he became its owner.
This laid the foundation for the famous Hatt brewing dynasty, which lasted for over 300 years and spanned eight generations. After World War II, this tradition was transformed into Brasseries Kronenbourg, which launched the iconic 1664 beer, named after the year Jérôme Hatt received his brewing title. The Hatt family ran the brewery until 1977. The last brewer in the family was another Jérôme Hatt, who died in 1998.
Today, the brewery is part of the Danish Carlsberg Group. Located in the town of Obernai in eastern France, it is the largest Carlsberg production plant in Europe.
