About the brewery:
The story of the Jupiler brewery began in the suburbs of Liège during the Industrial Revolution. It was here that the Piedbœufs founded the brewery that bears their name and brewed their first beer in 1853. In 1959, the Piedboeuf brewery launched the Jupiler Urtyp beer. This new pale beer was intended to compete with the German beers that were popular at the time. Following its success, the brewery expanded and in September 1966 launched the Jupiler 5 beer, so named because of its alcohol percentage and number of ingredients. The Belgians loved it and simply called it 5. In the 1980s, Jupiler challenged Stella Artois' dominance in Belgium, but sixteen years later, when the merger that eventually created Interbrew took place, the tables were turned. Today, Jupiler is part of the world's largest brewery, AB InBev.
