About the Brewery:
Around the year 1000, Countess Adula founded the Göss Abbey, where the nuns brewed beer. The monastery served as the cultural and economic center of the region until its dissolution in 1782. In 1860, Max Kober revived the monastery brewery, and in 1893 he founded a joint-stock company that laid the foundation for one of Austria’s most important breweries. In the 1920s, thanks to pasteurization and crown caps, Gösser began to expand beyond Austria. Today, the brewery is part of the Brau Union network, which was acquired by Heineken in 2003, and is one of the most modern in Austria. Gösser is called the “Grüne Brauerei” (Green Brewery) not only because of the color of its logo, but primarily because of the natural ingredients and eco-friendly technologies it uses in brewing. It is a multiple winner of the Austrian Energy Globe competition.
